Becoming a U.S. Citizen

After years of waiting and anticipation as a legal permanent resident, you may finally be eligible to become a U.S. citizen.  At Walker Law Office we regularly and proudly assist people with reaching this goal.

The process of becoming a U.S. citizen is known as "naturalization."  There are many important benefits of becoming a U.S. citizen, including protection from being deported, the right to vote, additional freedom of travel, eligibility for public benefits, and the right to bring certain family members to the U.S. to live as residents.

Before you apply to become a citizen in the U.S., it is advisable to consult with an immigration attorney for several reasons.  It is important to make sure that there have been no disqualifying events in your past that could  keep you from becoming a citizen.  For example, certain criminal convictions can cause your application to be denied, or even worse, cause you to be placed in removal proceedings.  The positive news here is that we may be able to help you remedy some of these problems and clear your path to citizenship.

After applying for U.S. citizenship, you will be required to take a test on civics and English language.  We can provide guidance to you regarding this examination and help you prepare to pass this test.
